Many of us do have leaders that we considered great. We may not agree with each other one whether or not one was a great leader, but we all know one. It could be a high school president or a statesman of a country that we have never set our foot on. However, there are specific qualities that define a good leader, and these are what we are going to discuss today.
A Great Leader Must Be Visionary
For anyone to be a great leader, he or she must be able to see beyond what the organization is, and work towards what the organization should be and know what the general environment might turn out to be. This is what will determine his or her present actions, and prevent him or her from being myopic.
He Must Work With People And Through People
Cliche I know, but its true. It may be that the leader has been able to convince people through persuasion or he didn’t have enough time for that and he chose to speed up the process through coercion; yeah. He is still a greater leader.
A Good Leader Is Decisive
We all know that this can be pretty hard thing if you are a leader. This may be because you are afraid of making people hurt, or you don’t want them to hate you. Failing to take decisive action creates an even worse scenario – people despise you.
Ability To Adapt To The Change
Another quality of a good leader is the ability to adapt to the change. He is not the kind of person who will sit back and whine about the good old days. Instead, he understands that things change and that he must always work to make the situation better for the people that he is leading – and for himself of course.
A Good Leader Is Someone That Has Passion For The Job
You can’t be a great leader if you hate the job that you do and everyday you feel like quitting. You may be a good person and you may also be a good leader in a different context, but you will not leave any legacy in the area that you hate – unless you change your attitude.
Respect
There is a phrase that says “power is in the appearance of power”. A great leader is not necessarily looking for power, but depending on the kind of organization or leadership position that you are in, it is required that you handle yourself with self respect – that is a very subjective term, depending on where you are.
However, it is important to note that as we started this article, we said that the person whom you consider as a great leader is not necessarily what the next guy would think to be a good leader. This means that leadership is very subjective and it depends on where you are. It can just be summed up as doing what is right, an doing it right.
